Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question not listed, please call or email us!

What type of training or degree do you have? At Bolder Tutor we hire people based upon their experience, knowledge and their desire to work with students of all ages. The fact is, not all teachers can teach and having someone with a teaching degree does not guarantee success. Although classroom teaching experience is a plus, I always suggest that people evaluate the person, not their degree.

What type of experience do you have? Bolder Tutor strives to provide tutors with many different experiences and look for positive tutoring references. Even a tutor who has had a bad experience with a student should leave that relationship on a positive note. We try to match tutors and students based upon experience with students of similar age and issues. Furthermore, it is important to find a person who is committed to working with your child on a long-term basis, so we only hire tutors who are committed to working for the entire school year. It is very hard on any student to switch teachers in the middle of a school year and it is equally hard for them to lose the person they have built a positive educational relationship with in a tutoring setting.

Do you have experience with students who have special needs? All of our tutors have experience with students who have special needs. Even if a student does not have an IEP in place at their school, all our tutors are experienced in recognizing learning disabilities in their students. If you have a student who has special needs, we try to match them up with a tutor who has experience with that specific need. We always provide a face-to-face meeting before tutoring begins. This allows us to get a go idea of the student's personality and needs so that we can match them up with the best tutor.

Do you provide services other than tutoring? Yes! Bolder Tutor is committed to communicating with the school, your child's teachers, and with you. First hand information through phone calls and emails is important to help maintain your child's performance, especially if your child has problems with assignment details and handing in homework. We emphasize time management and study skills with all our students to assure they complete assignments on time. Also, it is important for you to be kept up to date with how your child is doing in session so each invoice has a brief summary of each tutoring session. We also help to maintain records and have participated in IEP meetings.

How much do you charge? Bolder Tutor charges differently based on the service provided, number of hours per week and location. For one-on-one tutoring at your home in the Boulder area, our service averages at $60 an hour. For group tutoring sessions at the office, the average charge is $20/hour; however space is limited to 4 students for some programs. Cost can also vary by age level, subject area, and other services. Please contact us for specific pricing for your needs.

How will you update me with my child's progress? Bolder Tutor now includes a brief summary of all tutoring hours on each invoice. However, you can call our office at any time to speak to someone regarding specific questions or speak to the tutor directly for more detailed information. You may also call a progress meeting at any time. If your tutor is communicating with the teacher on a regular basis, your tutor should know how the student is progressing in school.
